Utilize our “Route Tree”
An understanding of the “route tree” is critical for a successful offense. Make sure your receivers and running backs know the route tree inside and out. It takes five minutes to learn and can really improve communication between players. It is also great for calling audibles, hot routes or running a hurry-up offense. Exercise your team’s memory of the routes while practicing or warming up. Have your receivers and half backs run routes on the tree at least three (3) times each. This will allow them to practice a route and you to work on timing and accuracy. More importantly, it will force them to remember the route numbers.
In addition, the playbook features an entire section that is devoted to tips for young players who are looking for the extra, competitive edge. The earlier a young player begins to develop the positive techniques for effective play, the sooner these effective techniques become a habit and are ingrained for the remainder of a player’s football career.
